Porous carbon boiling chips are used any time you are performing experiments which require boiling in laboratory glassware. Especially when using distilled or de-ionized water, which lack the heavy mineral content that most tap water has, the boiling chips provide a nucleation site for the molecules which have gained enough energy to become gaseous and escape the solution. The chips are chemically inert, and provide a smoother boil while preventing "knocking" during the procedure. Use with the MT170 Alcohol Determination Still, or any other glass distillation apparatus.
To Use: Add 2-3 chips to boiling flask prior to final still assembly.
