This kit is used to test for residual sugar in wine from 0 to 1% (0 to 10g/L.) Includes 10 tablets, a laminated color chart with directions, a plastic test tube, and a 1 ml pipette.
A wine with 0.2% residual sugar contains two grams of sugar in a liter of wine. Dry wines are typically in the 0.2-0.3 percent range, off-dry wines in the 1.0-5.0 percent range, and sweet dessert wines are normally 5.0-10 percent. However it can be a little subjective on taste and a wine with .5% or 5 g/L may taste completely dry.
Comparing Hydrometer to Residual Sugar Tests:
Even when a ferment is done according to a finishing, +5/-5 hydrometer, there is still a small amount of residual sugar up to the .5% or 5 g/L level. This kit will help you know the residual sugar level more precisely than a hydrometer will.
